Sydney’s Tertiary Art Disruptions Continue

Sixty five days since students occupied the administration building at the Sydney College of the Arts in protest against the University of Sydney's proposed changes for students and staff, police and security guards have moved in to remove protesters warning that any re-occupation could result in expulsion. The occupation has seen some advances with the University acknowledging it unlikely that SCA teaching would take place on the university's Camperdown campus in the first half of 2017 as they had originally announced, but the university has also confirmed that there will be no new intake for the bachelor of visual arts in 2017. The NTEU has also brought a dispute before the Fair Work Commission and 140 actions have been registered by students seeking fee refunds. Meanwhile there has been little media about the proposed closure of the National Art School site since the NAS students protest closed Oxford Street in August.
