New Home for Melbourne Conservatorium

Melbourne University announces a new $105 million Conservatorium to be built within the Southbank cultural precinct that is already home to the Victorian College of the Arts alongside many of Melbourne’s leading cultural institutions.  Acting Victorian Premier James Merlino confirmed a $3million capital grant from the Victorian Government that, together with contributions from The Myer Foundation and the Ian Potter Foundation, will realise the new facility which includes a 443 seat auditorium and a public square.  This investment will bring together staff and students at the Melbourne Conservatorium currently located at Parkville, with those at the VCA to create a vibrant new creative hub for tertiary arts education and research in Melbourne.  The building is expected to open to students in 2019.
